The Caroline Wars began in 1369 when French King Charles V declared war on England after Edward III's son, the Black Prince, refused to appear in Paris to address complaints about taxation in Aquitaine. This second phase of the Hundred Years War lasted for 20 years and saw significant military conflicts, including the Battle of Limoges and the naval defeat of the English at La Rochelle in 1372.
