Christopher Columbus was an adventurer, and he was set in his ways. He was a leader that had a raging god complex. However, that allowed him to do some things others might not have done. His individuality within his god complex is that he considered himself to be a hero and didn't consider the people he was affecting such as his mistreatment of Native Americans. Columbus helped them grow as a colony, and helped expand the land that we occupied allowing more Europeans to come and settle and creating relations with those who were already there, contributing to the creation of a new American identity.

"He then gradually progressed north and west, gaining status and power among the Caddos, Atakapas, Coahuitecans and other native communities from his activities as a merchant, and especially, his skill as a healer"(Coloumbus 52).
