The First Battle of Mount Hermon took place at the beginning of the Yom Kippur War between the Syrian Army and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). On Yom Kippur, October 6, 1973, Syrian commandos attacked and captured the IDF outpost on Mount Hermon. Two days later, the Syrians repelled an Israeli counterattack in the Second Battle of Mount Hermon. The outpost was eventually recaptured by Israel on October 21 in the Third Battle of Mount Hermon.

Background
Mount Hermon, standing at about 6,600 feet (2,000 meters), was crucial for its strategic vantage point, providing a commanding view of the Galilee and housing Israel's sensitive radar equipment. Captured by Israel in the Six-Day War, it offered critical early warning and intelligence capabilities.

In April 1970, Syrian intelligence managed to infiltrate the Druze community in the Golan Heights, compromising Israeli positions. By Yom Kippur in 1973, the isolated outpost, manned by 60 soldiers from various units, became a key target due to its strategic importance.

The Battle
On October 6, 1973, Syrian commandos attacked and captured the Israeli outpost on Mount Hermon. Despite an Israeli counterattack two days later, the Syrians held their ground. The outpost was finally recaptured by Israel on October 21, 1973, in the Third Battle of Mount Hermon.
