The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), founded in 1967 by George Habash, is a Marxist-Leninist and revolutionary socialist Palestinian organization. It is the second-largest faction within the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) after Fatah. The PFLP opposes both the Fatah-led government in the West Bank and the Hamas government in Gaza, considering them illegal due to the lack of elections since 2006. It is known for its past aircraft hijackings and has been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S., EU, Canada, and Japan.

Historically, the PFLP emerged from the Arab Nationalist Movement (ANM) founded by Habash in 1953. It combined with other groups after the Six-Day War to form the PFLP. The organization declared itself Marxist-Leninist in 1969 but maintains a Pan-Arabist stance. Over time, it has faced internal splits and external pressures, including from Islamist groups and changing regional alliances. The PFLP has largely been marginalized in recent Palestinian politics but continues to hold a degree of influence.
