The General Assembly

Having reviewed "The situation in the Middle East" and the Secretary-General's report of 15 September 1972 on his Special Representative's activities,

Reaffirming the need for full implementation of Security Council resolution 242 (1967) and General Assembly resolution 2799 (XXVI) of 13 December 1971,

Deeply concerned about the ongoing Israeli occupation of Arab territories since 5 June 1967 and the lack of progress towards a just and lasting peace,

Affirming that territories cannot be acquired by force and that changes in occupied territories violate international principles,

Recognizing the urgent threat to international peace and security posed by the current situation,

Reaffirms resolution 2799 (XXVI);

Deplores Israel’s non-compliance with resolution 2799 (XXVI) and its failure to engage positively with the Special Representative’s peace initiative;

Supports the Secretary-General and his Special Representative in their efforts;

Declares that acquiring territories by force is unacceptable and such territories must be restored;

Asserts that achieving a lasting peace requires:
(a) Withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories;
(b) End of all claims and respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of all States in the region;

Invites Israel to publicly commit to not annexing territories through force;

Declares that any changes Israel makes to occupied Arab territories contrary to the Geneva Conventions are null and void and urges Israel to reverse these actions;

Calls on all States not to recognize these changes and to avoid actions that could be seen as acknowledging the occupation;

Affirms that Palestinian rights are crucial for a just and lasting peace;

Requests the Security Council, in consultation with the Secretary-General and his Special Representative, to ensure the implementation of Security Council resolution 242 (1967) and relevant UN resolutions;

Requests the Secretary-General to report on the progress of implementing Security Council resolution 242 (1967) and this resolution;

Decides to forward this resolution to the Security Council for action and requests updates on its implementation.
