The General Assembly

Deeply concerned about the ongoing grave situation in the Middle East, particularly since the June 1967 conflict, which poses a serious threat to international peace and security,

Convinced that immediate implementation of Security Council resolution 242 (1967) is essential for a just and lasting peace in the region, ensuring security for all States,

Determined that territory should not be acquired by force, contrary to the UN Charter and Security Council resolution 242 (1967),

Appreciating the Committee of African Heads of State's efforts following the 23 June 1971 resolution of the Organization of African Unity,

Gravely concerned about Israel’s continued occupation of Arab territories since 5 June 1967,

Reaffirms that acquiring territories by force is inadmissible and that occupied territories must be restored;

Reaffirms that a just and lasting peace requires:
(a) Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from occupied territories;
(b) Termination of claims or belligerency, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all States in the area;

Requests the Secretary-General to reactivate the Special Representative's mission to promote peace, as per the aide-memoire of 8 February 1971;

Supports the Special Representative’s efforts to implement Security Council resolution 242 (1967);

Appreciates Egypt’s positive response to the Special Representative’s peace initiative;

Calls on Israel to respond favorably to the peace initiative;

Invites all parties to cooperate fully with the Special Representative on:
(a) Freedom of navigation through international waterways;
(b) A just settlement of the refugee problem;
(c) Guaranteeing territorial inviolability and political independence for all States in the area;

Requests the Secretary-General to report on the Special Representative’s progress to the Security Council and General Assembly;

Requests the Security Council to consider arrangements under the UN Charter for implementing resolution 242 (1967).
