Loki, seeking to disrupt the peace of Asgard and do ill towards Odin and Thor, travels to Jotunheim and conspires with Thrym. He promises to deliver Sif, one the fiercest warriors of the Aesir, to be his bride. Loki returns to Asgard and convinces Sif away from Asgard where she is ambushed by Thrym.

Loki then lets Heimdall know that Sif has been taken, beyond his sight. In a fury, Heimdall demands that Odin lead the forces of Asgard to retrieve his daughter, but Odin refuses to threaten peace for anything other than diplomacy. Heimdall then turns to Thor and Sif's husband Andhrimnir, promising to send them to Jotunheim unseen if they'll bring Sif home.

Thor and Andhrimnir and the Warrior's Three invade Jotunheim. they locate Sif and get her to safety when Heimdall can send the Bifrost to retrieve them, but in the escape Thrym kills Andhrimnir. Thrym and his forces follow them back to Asgard, where Odin has no choice but to defend the city, killing Thrym.

Odin confronts Thor over his rashness, which resulted in this death. That he is a vein, cruel, insolent child who does not think of the repercussions of his actions. He takes from him his Asgardian abilities. Frigg suggests that he needs a lesson in humility. Thor is cast down the Bifrost, banished to Midgard as a human.
