Alcibiades anchored near the Spartan stronghold of Ephesus. While Alcibiades was away meeting other generals, his pilot Antiochus engaged Lysanders fleet against orders. While the Athenians only lost 22 ships, Alcibiades failure led to his exile and Athens lost their best naval commander.
