"nuclear deterrent"
= based on principle of "mutually assured destruction" and says that possessing and threatening to use nuclear weapons could deter an adversary from launching a nuclear attack or engaging in aggressive actions
-> "peaceful cohexistence" = not attack because they could destroy each-other

STILL COMPETE in tother ways (ex: Space race + weapons + spies)
