Jaffa, now part of southern Tel Aviv, Israel, is an ancient port city with a rich history. Initially founded by the Canaanites, it has changed hands multiple times through history. Jaffa has seen significant events including the 1192 Battle of Jaffa, the Treaty of Jaffa in 1229, and the Siege of Jaffa by Napoleon in 1799. Historically an Arab majority city, Jaffa was known for its orange orchards and became a Palestinian journalism hub in the early 20th century. After the 1948 Palestine War, it was incorporated into the new state of Israel and merged with Tel Aviv in 1950.
