22 май 1916 г. - LETTER: Louis Brandies to William E. Blackstone Brandies expresses his support for the Memorial being prepared to present to President Wilson, which revives a document presented to President Harrison twenty-five years ago. He acknowledges the historical significance of the previous Memorial (1895) and hopes for success in securing support for the new one. Letters of Louis D. Brandeis. Vol. 4 (1916-1921)

Описание:

To William E. Blackstone May 22, 1916 Boston, Mass. [Brandeis Mss, Z 203]

MY DEAR MR. BLACKSTONE: I am very glad to know from your letter of the 15th of the Memorial which you are preparing to present to President Wilson, reviving the Memorial which you presented to President Harrison twenty-five years ago.¹ That document, ante-dating as it did Theodore Herzl's own participation in the Zionist movement, is destined to become of historical significance; and I trust that you may be as successful in securing the support for this new Memorial as you were a quarter of a century ago.
In view of the work being directly undertaken by the Jewish Zionist organization, your Memorial would presumably be most effective if it derives its support from non-Jews.
I hope you will keep me fully informed of the progress that you are making, and will advise me in advance when you are purposing to present the Memorial, so that we may give such aid as may be possible in rendering it effective.²
With best wishes, Very cordially yours

Sub-Notes:
1. See LDB to Richard Crane, 26 April 1916.
2. The memorial had already been sent to Wilson on 8 May, and the President replied that he was very interested and would give it his earnest consideration at the opportune time.
