The Battle of 'Auja, also known as the Battle of Nitzana, was a key engagement between the Israel Defense Forces and the Egyptian Army on December 26-27, 1948, near the village of 'Auja on the Egypt-Israel border. Part of Operation Horev, the battle aimed to expel Egyptian forces from Israel and involved simultaneous attacks on 18 strategic positions along the Beersheba–'Auja road.

The battle was executed by the 8th Brigade, reinforced by the Harel Brigade. Despite initial setbacks due to difficult terrain, Israeli forces launched their main assault on December 26. The fighting concluded on December 27 with the capture of all targeted positions, although the final two were secured only by the morning of December 28.

This battle was significant as it triggered a full retreat of Egyptian forces from the area, leading to the eventual withdrawal of all Egyptian military presence from the region. The capture of 'Auja was a strategic victory in Operation Horev and facilitated subsequent Israeli advances into the Sinai Peninsula, though all forces withdrew due to international pressure. Following the war, 'Auja became a demilitarized zone until it was recaptured by Israel in 1955 during Operation Volcano.
