As war loomed, the residents of Jarash evacuated their village before October 21. An Israeli force of armored vehicles and infantry advanced along route 386 towards Bayt 'Itab. By early morning on October 22, they found the village abandoned and subsequently demolished the houses. After clearing land mines, they proceeded to the village of Ḥousan, where a firefight erupted with Jordanian forces, who eventually retreated. By dusk, the Har’el Brigade had occupied Ḥousan.

A cease-fire, requested by the United Nations Security Council, commenced at 15:30 on October 22. An hour later, the Har’el Brigade was unexpectedly ordered to withdraw to a previous junction and hold for further instructions. Despite initial readiness to continue operations towards Bethlehem and Hebron, Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion instructed the brigade to completely withdraw from Ḥousan and cease all hostilities. The brigade was to regroup at the "Forked Junction" near Tzur Hadassah. Despite objections from Brigade Commander Joseph Tabenkin, who urgently sought reconsideration of the orders at Har’el HQ in Abu-Ghosh, the decision stood.

The campaign significantly shaped the boundaries during the 1949 Armistice Agreement with Jordan, securing the Jerusalem Corridor and eliminating nearby resistance, thus defining Israel's border in the region.
