The Harel Brigade advanced to capture Dayr al-Hawa, using the village as a strategic base for future operations towards al-Khader, Bethlehem, and Hebron. They initiated reconnaissance by sending small patrols to familiarize with the terrain and assess enemy defenses. Despite initial setbacks from enemy fire which repelled their scouts, the brigade formulated a comprehensive attack plan.

Two companies launched the main assault on Dayr al-Hawa, supported by a 120 mm mortar battery. They approached the village from multiple directions, ceasing auxiliary weapon fire as they neared 200 meters to the target. This multi-directional attack led to the quick capitulation of the village; by midnight, the Fourth Battalion secured Dayr al-Hawa, finding it largely abandoned by the villagers and their livestock.

With Dayr al-Hawa under control, the brigade captured three key military outposts: the 'House', the 'Cannon', and the 'Joint' outposts, encountering resistance at each. The successful capture of these positions provided the brigade with significant tactical advantages, prompting plans for continued daylight operations. The next objective was Bayt Nattif, intending to secure it for unhindered passage along the Bayt Ha-Elah road.
