Operation Ha-Har, or Operation El Ha-Har, was an IDF campaign against villages southwest of Jerusalem from October 19-24, 1948, involving the Harel and Etzioni Brigades. The operation aimed to expand the Jerusalem Corridor southward and was carried out alongside Operation Yoav, which targeted Egyptian positions in the Negev. Over a dozen villages defended by Egyptian forces and local militias were captured during the operation.

Background and Planning:
Before the operation, the Harel Brigade focused on preventing infiltrations and securing routes to Jerusalem. Reconnaissance missions were conducted around Beit Jimal and Dayr al-Hawa to prepare for potential combat. Despite initial restrictions, positions were forcefully taken once hostilities resumed, with the objective of extending control as far as the Elah Valley and securing vital road links.

Execution:
The operation kicked off in conjunction with Operation Yoav on October 15, focusing on the south initially. After capturing strategic junctions in the Negev and confirming non-intervention by the Jordanian Arab Legion, the Harel Brigade began its assault on October 19. The goal was to rid the Jerusalem Corridor of hostile forces and secure expanded territorial control without triggering international repercussions.

Captured Villages:
The operation resulted in the capture of over a dozen villages, significantly altering the strategic landscape southwest of Jerusalem and extending Israeli control in the area.
