The Battles of Kfar Darom during the 1947–1948 Arab-Israeli War involved a series of engagements between the Jewish Haganah, including the Palmach, and various Arab forces, culminating in intense clashes with the Egyptian army and Muslim Brotherhood units. Initially established as a fruit orchard in 1930 and later re-established in 1946 as part of the 11 points in the Negev, Kfar Darom became a strategic site located on Egypt's main advance and supply route during the war. Despite being heavily outnumbered and under constant siege, about 30 Israeli defenders held out against multiple Egyptian assaults.

Significant battles occurred between May 13–15, 1948, when the Egyptians, supported by artillery, failed to capture the kibbutz, suffering considerable losses. Attempts to resupply the kibbutz through ground and air were largely unsuccessful. By July 8, 1948, under continuous siege and unable to maintain their position, the kibbutz members evacuated. The Egyptian army captured the empty kibbutz the following day. Kfar Darom's stand boosted Israeli morale and demonstrated the resilience of the Jewish forces despite the siege conditions.
