2 июн 1948 г. - Death of Hasan Salama

Описание:

Hasan Salama (1913 – 2 June 1948) was a prominent Palestinian Arab nationalist and guerrilla leader during the 1948 Palestine War. Born in Qula, Palestine during Ottoman rule, he became a key figure in the Arab struggle against British authorities and the Jewish Yishuv. Salama played a significant role in the 1936–39 Arab revolt, leading operations in the Lydda, al-Ramla, and Jaffa areas, and was known for his tactical expertise in guerrilla warfare.

After the collapse of the Arab revolt and the onset of World War II, Salama fled to Iraq, where he aligned with Rashid Ali al-Gaylani during the 1941 coup and the Anglo-Iraqi War. Following his time in Iraq, Salama, along with other Palestinian leaders, found refuge in Nazi Germany, where he received military training and participated in covert operations, including the failed Operation Atlas, aimed at sabotaging British-controlled Palestine.

In 1947, Salama reappeared as a key commander in the Army of the Holy War, under the influence of the Grand Mufti Hajj Amin al-Husseini. During the 1947–48 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine, he orchestrated attacks against Jewish targets, utilizing arms cached from his time with the Nazis in Egypt. Despite initial successes, his forces suffered significant losses, particularly in the attack on Tel Aviv's Hatikva Quarter.

Salama was known for his leadership along the strategic Lydda-Jaffa corridor and was instrumental in organizing militia and foreign volunteers, including Bosnian veterans from the Waffen SS. His death on 2 June 1948 marked the end of his direct involvement in the conflict, but his legacy continued through his son, Ali Hassan Salameh, who later became a prominent figure in Black September and the Munich massacre.

Salama's life was marked by his transition from local resistance fighter against colonial forces to a key military leader in the broader Arab nationalist movement, reflecting the complex interplay of local and international forces in the history of Palestinian nationalism.
