The Battle of Jisr Benat Yakub occurred on September 27, 1918, during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of World War I. This battle was a crucial part of the pursuit by the Desert Mounted Corps of the retreating remnants of the Yildirim Army Group towards Damascus. After significant victories in the Battle of Sharon, part of the larger Battle of Megiddo, the Australian Mounted Division attacked and captured various rearguard positions held by German and Ottoman forces at key locations, including the Daughters of Jacob Bridge over the Jordan River and nearby fords.

As the Ottoman Seventh and Eighth Armies retreated from the Judean Hills towards Damascus, they, along with the Fourth Army, formed defensive lines to cover their withdrawal. However, these were overcome by the Australian Mounted Division, which successfully crossed the Jordan River, capturing many of the retreating forces and securing the eastern bank. This victory allowed the Allied forces to continue their advance towards Damascus, maintaining pressure on the retreating Ottoman and German forces.
