20 сент 1918 г. - The Capture of Jenin
Описание:
The Capture of Jenin took place on 20 September 1918 during the Battle of Sharon, a part of the larger Battle of Megiddo in the closing months of the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of World War I. This battle was integral to the cavalry operations carried out by the Desert Mounted Corps, involving the Australian 3rd Light Horse Brigade. The brigade successfully seized the town of Jenin, located on the southern edge of the Esdraelon Plain, capturing approximately 2,000 prisoners along with the main supply base and ordnance depot of the Ottoman Seventh and Eighth Armies. This operation also facilitated the capture of an additional 6,000 soldiers as they attempted to retreat from the Judean Hills.
Following their success at Jenin, the Australian Light Horsemen played a critical role in subsequent battles including the capture of Afulah, Beisan, and the headquarters at Nazareth and Nablus. The cumulative effects of these victories significantly weakened the Ottoman forces, culminating in a decisive engagement at Samakh on 25 September, marking the end of the Battle of Sharon. This series of victories was pivotal in forcing the retreating Ottoman forces to the east side of the Jordan River, setting the stage for further advances by the Egyptian Expeditionary Force towards Damascus.
