Описание:

The Jewish National Fund (JNF), initially proposed at the First Zionist Congress in 1897 by Hermann Schapira, was officially established at the Fifth Zionist Congress in Basel in 1901. Under the leadership of Johann Kremenezky, a Jewish industrialist, the JNF began its efforts to purchase land in Palestine. Initial land acquisitions were made in Judea and the Lower Galilee, with the first parcel of land, 200 dunams east of Hadera, gifted by Russian Zionist leader Isaac Leib Goldberg of Vilnius in 1903.

Throughout the Ottoman era, the JNF continued to acquire land, purchasing plots near the Sea of Galilee and at Ben Shemen in 1904 and 1905, respectively. By 1921, the JNF's land holdings had reached 25,000 acres, expanding to 50,000 acres by 1927. By the end of 1935, the JNF owned 89,500 acres of land, which accommodated 108 Jewish communities.

The establishment of Tel Aviv in 1909 was a significant milestone facilitated by the JNF, marking the organization's central role in supporting Jewish settlement and development in Palestine. Additionally, the JNF initiated afforestation efforts through the "Olive Tree Fund," which garnered support from the Jewish Diaspora.

The iconic JNF collection boxes, known as Blue Boxes or pushkes, became symbols of the partnership between Israel and the Diaspora. These collection boxes, along with JNF stamps sold between 1902 and the late 1940s, served as important fundraising tools for the organization. In May 1948, during the transition from Palestine to Israel, JNF stamps were briefly used as postage stamps.

Overall, the JNF played a crucial role in acquiring and developing land in Palestine during the Ottoman era, laying the foundation for Jewish settlement and the establishment of the State of Israel.
