The Battle of Mount Tabor occurred on April 16, 1799, during the French Campaign in Egypt and Syria. French forces led by Napoleon Bonaparte and General Jean-Baptiste Kléber faced an Ottoman Army under Abdullah Pasha al-Azm, ruler of Damascus.

In response to intelligence about a large Ottoman force heading towards Acre to lift the siege, General Kléber initiated an audacious attack near Mount Tabor. Despite being significantly outnumbered, Kléber managed to hold off the Turkish army until Napoleon's unexpected arrival with reinforcements. The French, aided by Napoleon's strategic maneuvering, inflicted heavy casualties on the Ottomans and forced them to retreat, thwarting their plans to reclaim Egypt.

Kléber's initial plan to surprise the Ottomans at night was delayed, leading to a daylight confrontation. As the French position became increasingly untenable due to dwindling supplies, Napoleon's timely intervention turned the tide of the battle. His forces, concealed by vegetation, caught the Ottomans off guard and disrupted their camp, leading to chaos and ultimately a rout.

The aftermath of the battle saw minimal French casualties, but inflicted significant losses on the Ottoman army, estimated at 6,000 men. With the threat of a relief army neutralized, Napoleon resumed the siege of Acre. However, faced with mounting sickness among his troops, he later decided to abandon the siege and retreat to Egypt.
