The Soviets, particularly puppets of the USSR, built a wall solidifying the boundary between the free West and "free" East, the Allies and Bloc. For over 25 years the wall divided the two halves of Germany, and remained a symbol of desperation and division, the Red devil that strangled the rights of millions and frosted Western hearts with a frozen fear. It's still regarded as one of the most important international icons of the age, especially its fall and the reunification of Europe, as families were torn apart and put back together, and the close juxtaposition of darkness and light.
