Martin Luther is considered one of the most important figures during the Reformation. In 1517, he published his 95 Theses, which detailed the corruption in the Christian Church and started the Protestant Reformation. He believed religion should be a personal choice and that deciding to have faith in God led to salvation.

He was immediately excommunicated, but he was protected by Albrecht Durer, a fierce Catholic who had other political concerns. In his exile, he translated the Bible, creating a personal relationship with God for the people.
