On August 28th, 1221, the Crusaders surrendered to al-Kamil. However, the Crusaders still had some leverage, as Damietta was well-defended. The Crusaders and Muslims made a deal of peace, in return for surrendering Damietta to the Muslims, the Crusaders could pass unharmed.
