1 янв 1933 г. - Hitler becomes Chancellor

Описание:

Jan 1932:
- After the Reichstag elections of 1932, the Nazis were the largest single party with 230 votes, but still not the majority. Hitler demanded the position of chancellor, but Hindenburg was suspicious of Hitler and instead have the position of chancellor to Von Papen. Von Papen did not last long though, as the Reichstag did not approve of him.

Nov 1932:
- elections took place once again and the Nazis came out as the largest party although their vote fell.

Dec 1932:
- Hindenburg refused to appoint Hitler as chancellor once again and instead appointed Kurt von Schleicher, one of his advisors. But 1 month later he was forced to resign. By this time it was obvious to the public that the Weimar government was not working, and at this point, Hindenburg was desperate for a chancellor.

Jan 1933:
- Hindenburg appointed Hitler as chancellor, through January Hindenburg and Von Papen met secretly and on the 30th of January, they surprisingly appointed Hitler as chancellor. However, Hitler's powers were restricted, by having Von Papen as vice-chancellor it would make a 'burger' with Hitler between von Papen and Hindenburg, preventing him from having too much power.

Why/How did Hitler become Chancellor?

- Weimar weaknesses (unpopular, economically weak, massive use of article 48 due to weak government)

- Nazi strenghts (propaganda, hatred for similar things, economic tactics, speaches)
