Organises several strikes in the 1970s under the leadership of Cesar Chavez, a civil rights activist. Agricultural workers were previously much less unionised. Chavez was Mexican-American but wanted to limit immigration as he felt it undermined the rights of the people living in America already. Achieved a profile and promoted non-violence (Hispanic MLK).

Cesar achieved local success in California, securing collective bargaining rights for workers there.
