Canada joined the battle of WW1 in 1914, due to its obligation to support Britain as it was one of the British colonies. The entry into WWI created hostility and separation amongst the general population as there was a divide between people who were pro-war and people who were anti-war. Canada’s involvement ended up sending 620,000 people overseas with 67,000 of them being killed in battle. The absence of working men caused a weakening in the economy, as many workers were enlisted to help fight in the war. This created holes in the economy due to the lack of production in Canada. In turn, the quality of life in Canada was reduced, as citizens were forced to ration, due to the resources needed to fund Canada’s expanding war effort, creating a significant decline in Canada.
