The Magna Carta was a charter that was signed by King John of England in 1215. It established the rule of law and limited the power of the monarchy. This event helped establish the concept of individual rights and limited government, which became central to classical liberalism.

During the Magna Carta in 1215, the principle of rule of law was established by limiting the power of the King and establishing the right to a fair trial. Additionally, individual rights were furthered through the provision that no free man could be punished without the lawful judgement of his peers.
