The Freedom Riders quickly went to the Namoi River settlement in the morning to do a few surveys. They noticed the poor conditions of the settlement - the use of filthy water, tin shacks with mud floors, and it was extremely overcrowded. On their way back to Walgett they got pushed off of the road, however, they were all fine and was able to reach before noon. They all stood in front of the local RSL and protested against segregation and the "colour bars".
