Major Event #1: On February 26, one of the greatest mix-ups of the Oscars occurred at the 89th Academy Awards in Dolby Theater, California. American actor and filmmaker Warren Beatty opened the envelope for the “Best Picture” award and hesitated for a moment after seeing the contents. Next to him, actress Faye Dunaway, unaware of Beatty’s reaction, opened his envelope and read “La La Land” as the Best Picture. Only after the actors were in the middle of their speeches did proprietors of the Oscars come out on stage and declare that Beatty had been handed the wrong envelope- Moonlight was the real Best Picture.
