The U.S joins forces with the Allied powers because Germany starts attacking U.S merchant ships. America felt threatened that their resources would be lost. At the time the U.S military wasn't very strong so they granted Puerto Ricans citizenship so they’d be able to enter the U.S and enlist in World War 1.
