When was the format invented?
It began truly in 1999 and the main site doing this was the file sharing site called napster which allowed for free music “trading” between users although you could do it legally a lot of the time it was done illegally
How sound is captured and played back?
It mainly a form of mp format when it first started out it used the MP3 format so it technically doesn’t capture or record sound it just transmits a prerecorded audio track
Did it effect other formats?
It has cost the music industry $12.5 billion in losses due to illegal downloads and like Mp3 assisted in the decline of physical music media.
71,000 jobs have been lost due to illegal downloads.
Over all it cost it music industry a lot, so it easy to see how it could have affected the other forms of muisc media that came before it since with less money coming to the industry they would have to cut back on what they are spending on.
'illegal' Downloading and used a type of program called P2P originally worked by connecting a user wanting a song to one that had the song that you where after. Once the p2p program found a match it would connect you the other users PC then it would download the song, once finished it would disconnect from the other users Pc , then you had the song (or songs) on your PC.
How did impact consumers?
It basically enabled anyone with access to a PC to be able to access music for free if they couldn’t or didn’t want to pay for music. provided the had access the net
it was so easy since it would just be one to a couple clicks away and since it was so easy a lot of people do it since it human nature to take the best option which would be somethings that free and has little drawbacks
