1 янв 1853 г. - Bakumatsu and the Matthew C. Perry Expedition

Описание:

Between 1853 and 1854, USN Commodore Matthew C. Perry began his expeditions in the pacific, specifically to Japan, in an event that was called the "Opening of Japan". Perry used the age old US imperialist tactic of Gunboat Diplomacy, in which he sailed many ships to Japan and threatened the Tokugawa Shogunate with violence if they didn't open the country to trade and diplomacy instead of isolation. The ending of the isolation was called "Bakumatsu" by the Japanese people, which refers to the end of the Bakufu period of isolation. The following print by Hatch and Severyn details Commodore Perry's landing in Japan.
