A blackbody absorbs all light energy. When it heats up, it becomes a perfect radiator, and it can be shown as a blackbody radiation curve. Because classical physics could not show the correlation between the temperature and the blackbody curve, Planck hypothesized that the connection lied in how the light was absorbed.
