The Waco siege, also known as the Waco standoff, was a 51 day siege of a compound belonging to the religious group Branch Davidians in Waco, Texas, in 1993. The siege began on February 28, 1993, when agents of the FBI and ATF attempted to execute a search warrant on the compound, which they suspected of having illegal weapons. The Branch Davidians refused to allow entry and a gunfight broke out, resulting in the death of four agents and six davidians. The FBI then took over the siege which lasted for 51 days, during which time negotiations were attempted but failed. On April 19, 1993 the FBI launched a tear gas attack on the compound, however a fire broke out engulfing the compound in flames. In the end, 76 people died including 25 children and two pregnant women, as well as the leader David Koresh.The Waco siege was highly controversial because of the excessive use of the government.Добавлено на ленту времени:
