In 1992, my mother arrives to the U.S. However, unlike my father who was able to arrive to the U.S. with a Visa, my mother had to cross the border in order to enter the U.S. At that time, my mother was a single mother of 2. But due to the fact that Nicaraguan economy was still recovering from the Sandinista Revolution and natural disasters, as well as it was getting increasingly harder for her and her family to make ends meet; she took the difficult decision to migrate to the U.S. in order to financially support her children and family back home.
