After weeks showing off Chanel on the red carpet, it was only a matter of time before Chanel made an announcement that Lily-Rose Depp was to become its beautiful face officially.

The French fashion house today revealed that 16-year-old Depp would become the face of Chanel No 5 L'Eau, the latest incarnation of the world's best-selling scent by in-house perfumer Olivier Polge. Following in the footsteps of Gisele, Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Kidman and Brad Pitt, Depp is in beautiful company - of course she is, her gene pool (her parents are of course Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis) wouldn't have it any other way.

"A young, up-and-coming actress, Lily-Rose Depp is already the face for the Chanel Pearl eyewear collection launched in September 2015. She embodies her generation and its values of freedom and boldness to perfection, bringing to the iconic fragrance of the House her youthful freshness and beauty," Chanel said in a statement.

Whilst fashion and beauty watchers, will be keen to see how Depp's relationship with Chanel develops, it's less clear what her father Johnny will make of the news. Back in 2015 he admitted to German magazine Gala he was nervous about her foray into the fashion world: "To be honest, I’m quite worried. I wasn’t expecting all this to happen to Lily-Rose, especially not at this age. But it’s her passion and she’s having fun."

It's certainly true she's having fun. As Depp put it on her Instagram today: "I'm so excited to announce that I am the face of the new Chanel Number 5 L'eau!"
