Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base that is near Honolulu, Hawaii but on December 7th, 1941 it was attacked by Japanese forces. This attack surprised many although Japan and the U.S. had been thinking about going to war for some time. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a plan to destroy the pacific fleet so it would be harder for the U.S. forces to fight back against them. Japan had destroyed about 20 naval vessels and 400 airplanes and along with this 2,400 Americans had died due to the bombing with another 1,000 injured. This urged America to truly debate war and soon they agreed to go fight in World War II.
