During the 9th century. Pig bladders would be used as a ball with the purpose of taking the ball from one landmark to another. Eventually, this changed to two big mob like teams playing against each other trying to score a goal. With each goal being across the town. This game was known as "folk football". This game was often more violent being that there were no rules or regulations.
