Fidel Castro overthrew General Fulgencio Batista. The CIA attempted to overthrow him for 2 years before invading. The invasion went wrong and Castros men outnumbered them greatly. It is just 100 miles from the U.S. making american official nervous and Castro took steps towards reducing American Influence in Cuba.
