- Stalin is a danger and must be removed
- Zinoviev and Kamenev were disloyal in 1917.
- Bukharin is great but not a true Marxist
- Trotsky is the 'most able man' in the party but too arrogant.

it was given to the Politburo in 1924:
- could have led to the end of Stalin's career
- Stalin managed to make them keep it secret as it wasn't flattering for anyone.
- Stalin agreed to let Trotsky speak publically at the next congress if he didn't publish the testament.
