Railroads were initially used in mining and continued to advance from the 1500s to the 1700s. But in 1804 Richard Trevithick created the first steam powered train that carried cargo and people. This train was built upon and improved eventually reaching 50mph. By 1850, England was covered in 6,000 miles of tracks.
