On November 4, 1979, a group of Iranian students held fifty-two American diplomats and citizens as hostage for 444 days after they took over the US Embassy in Tehran, caused by President Jimmy Carter’s approval of Iran’s deposed Shah to enter US for medical treatment. The Iran Hostage Crisis represented a diplomatic standoff between Iran and the United States; through the action, student revolutionaries tried to express two ideas: declaration of a break with Iran’s past and an end to American interference in Iran affairs.
