Reflection: This was a huge leap for nursing education in Arizona. There was a divide between favor of nursing being taught in educational establishments and nursing training through hospital based nursing schools. It was felt that student nurses would not obtain the on the job bedside skills from sitting at a desk in a classroom. The AzBN had to ensure student nurses were receiving effective teaching to prepare them for the national test pool licensure exam as well practicing valuable nursing skills (Randolph, 2001). Many Arizona community colleges and private schools also formed departments of nursing in this decade and began accepting students.
