8 апр 1864 г. - Opening of Gallaudet University
Описание:
President Abraham Lincoln signed the bill giving land in Washington D.C. to start a deaf college. The school was founded by Edward Miner Gallaudet, son of Thomas. The first graduating class was in 1869. The school gained university status in 1986. More and more people saw that the deaf community is just as capable as hearing people. They can go to college too. Deaf people could feel proud of their accomplishments.
