As time passed the NMA became more unstable as reckless which resulted into overloading tension and conflict between the rump and the NMA this result into the rump giving power to the NMA to try and take control over England at this time. Also the major general rule was also a result from Cromwell and lamberts overreaction to the failure of the first protectorate parliament trying to attack onto the Spanish colonies.
There was other reasons for the formation of the major general rule
-religious reformation
-failure of the western design
-finance
-royalism
How did it work
England was split up into 11 area which a high levelling general would take over the land a common way to start your rule of power was to close gaming houses ,taverns and brothels but there was a unclear rule towards area and there laws as some general closed sport activity like football and other how others did not so at this time you would have a lot of people moving around to right a get through the loop hole of strict rules as puritan’s belief that if you are not worshiping god every second you should have not been given the gift of life this is why general close off distraction like well being activities this is why the pupil is hated the general rule together.
Over all there was a reason why it failed and it was because military leaders should be in the military not controlling the country becasue as it showed they didnt know how to rule a country on there own
