The Mensheviks were the opposite of the Bolsheviks. The word Menshevik means "One of the Minority" in Russian; it was a group of anti-Leninists in the Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party, but they broke off and formed their own group. The Mensheviks were founded by Julius Martov in 1903 and were overthrown by the Bolsheviks in 1917 after the October Revolution.
