The Cheka were the first ever secret police founded in December of 1917. They were only temporary, until Lenin and his Bolsheviks had complete power. The responsibilities of the Cheka was to stop any anti-revolutionary activities that were going on. The executed those in the anti-revolutionary activities. The Cheka were replaced with the OGPU in 1922.
