The difference in expectations of women in the past and expectations of women now are different in ways, but is one version better than the other? Is expecting women to achieve high status careers really that bad? Or even expecting women to relax all day while their husbands work and make money, is it really that bad? The short answer to the question “is one expectation better than the other” is no. No, one is not better. No, neither of them are good. The issue is that both of these stereotypes or roles that people want to put women in promote the idea that all women are the same. All women want children, all women only care about their careers, all women share the same ideas. This completely ignores individuality. There could be two women who come from the same area, were raised in similar households, and might even look similar, but this doesn’t mean they want the same things in life. In order for women to have equal rights we need to embrace differences and individuality. That includes getting rid of stereotypes or expectations.
