In 1356 an alliance formed by the counts of Gorizia, Lord Francesco I de Carrara of Padua, patriarch Nicolaus of Aquileia, Charles IV of Luxembourg, the dukes of Austria, and Louis I. The league's troops occupied Grado and Muggia while Louis attacked the Dalmatian coast, taking the cities of Zara, Traù, Spalato, and Ragusa, though failing in the siege of Treviso.
